About TGI Friday
TGI Friday is a casual dining American restaurant chain founded in 1965. The term “TGI” is an acronym for Thank God It's and together the name of the restaurant is often announced as Thank God It's Friday. Over the years of its existence, the TV commercials and other advertisement streams have also twisted the phrase a bit and used it as Thank Goodness It's Friday. The restaurant serves alcoholic beverages primarily. However, they are also known for their low-carbohydrate and low-fat menu items to promote a healthy lifestyle. Wow, ok, so I'm waaaaaay behind on my Yelping here. I hope I can be forgiven! I've been to Fric & Frac on several occasions, all of which have been well deserving of a five-star review - for several reasons. 1. It's on 39th street. This neighborhood is cool and understated with great music and neat little shops. Plus, the crowd around there is pretty interesting. 2. They have outdoor seating. Great for people watching, which is one of my favorite things to do, especially on 39th street. 3. The food is great. They've got a wide variety from Hummus and Pita (to die for, by the way!) to Cheesesteaks and Cajun style chicken. 4. The service is top notch. Anytime I come here, I feel like I belong. The servers treat you like they would an old friend and are quick to see you need a refill or notice that you need their attention. I'm sure I could think of some other cool things to write about Fric & Frac, but to save you from reading a novel, I say you should check it out and see for yourself.

My Fiance and I enjoy coming to this place sometimes maybe once or twice a month if even that now. We like to sit up top where the pool tables are, but we don't play pool their. This is one of your typical yet not so typical corner bars that the wonderful 39th st. has to offer. Food:Their food is definitely typical bar food, good to eat but not all the time. They need a bigger cooking area and one that's not in front of the public. The prices are little more than what a bar should be priced at for the portions they give out. Not enough food and to much money for the item. The quality isn't that great but like i said it is your typical bar food. Although my fiance loved her salad that she got. Atmosphere: It's a great place to get together with friends on the weekends and watch some football on Sunday and Monday nights. it's an easy walk from where we are currently, but not a place I would go during the week. Bar area: to much clutter and not enough room to enjoy the space. Couple TVs some Wi-Fi. They do have a projector screen that is good for the front end of the bar. Drinks are weak when served there is no even mix. I watch the bartender pour a drink and the count he did was terrible. I managed to get a 3 count out before he stopped the pour. If they used a jigger they wouldn't have this problem. Instead guessing. The price for the well is not priced right at all not for the size of glass or for the pour count $4 well not a good price needs to be lowered especially seeing how their pour count is off by a lot Service: customer service is slaking in some areas. Lack of eye contact while ordering your food or asking question. they seem more interested in the people either A playing pool or other customers at bigger tables(i.e. more people) they don't check on you as often as they do their bigger tables. There are 3 visits that are necessary: Order, food and check (this took forever to get) in between all of that, We had to grab our waitress attention to get drinks refilled several times not once did she do it on here own. Here I'm going to reiterate how important eye contact is when you walk by your customer table always make eye contact then that places your customers table in your sight as well. So, you are able to see if your customers need drink especially mixed drinks. That is your profit and tip maker right there for you. Anyways over all 3 for the atmosphere and 2 on food and 2 on service. We wont be able to come here much longer if things don't improve... Service, service,service....

It it just me or is there menus shrinking? And the daily specially are non existing As per normal this place is a dive. But even knowing its a dive. It's not one of the fun dive places any more. I'd rather go to the flea market. It's better food. Bigger sizes and there dog friendly too

Fric & Frac is a prime example of what makes 39th street, well, 39th Street! Service is friendly, but a little slow. And by a little, I guess I mean a lot slow. When I come here it's usually to hang out and converse with friends, so slow service isn't a problem. The waiters have always been great about telling us the specials and how to get the best deal. They have a decent happy hour, and yummy tacos on special each Saturday. The food is typical bar food. Not healthy, not exceptional, but hella good if you're in a fried food kind of mood. I will say the chicken gyro is fabulous, and I'm a fan of the Italian fries. The bar whips up some very creative and tasty cocktails. They run just under $7, and the cocktail list changes frequently.

Saigon 39 was closed at the time my friend and I wanted to grab a very early dinner (4pm) and so we headed down the street to Fric and Frac. I've had a great breakfast here before, but today was about the happy hour that they advertise on billboards and on facebook. I was pretty disappointed, for one reason only: speed of service. If you are going to have half-price appetizers, it doesn't mean you can take twice as long to bring them out, especially when your place was only 1/4 full when we came in. Food was great, when it did actually make it out. Jalapeno poppers, quesadillas (on the half price menu) and Boulevards (on special) and a Philly Dilly - a not-bad philly cheesesteak. No real apology/explanation for the service lag. Could be better...

Anyone who says the service here is great is lying. I've been here so many times and not once have I received my food within 45mins or had my drinks refilled. This place is a bar with a restaurant as an after thought. If you want a cool trendy place with good drink prices to hang out and have hours to burn then Fric & Frac is perfect. Do not come here looking for a quick bite or speedy easy service. You have to settle in and commit to the long haul with this one.

Do I have to give this place even ONE star in order to properly 'review' it? Certainly undeserving. I have now lived here in the KC metro area for half a year, and there has been a fair share of decent places to eat and not-so-decent places. This particular "Fric & Frac" place was leaps & bounds worse than any place I have ever stepped foot in (regardless of me being in KC or elsewhere in the nation). First, we must discuss the service that everyone has already noted within the reviews of the place. Terrible. No personality, no checkups, "what would you like to drink"...no bothers to refill, toothless, tattoo's, etc. you know the kind. Second, yes the place is dirty and in a dirty area. As we walk towards the restaurant, there are spray-paint artists 'decorating' walls nearby, mid-day drunks coming and going through the liquor store by bicycle, etc. The restaurant itself looks to be ran by true professionals in every sense of the word. I felt like I had entered into a mixture of a town suffering from nuclear radiation and one that was stuck in the cocaine snorting days of the 1960's from the given atmosphere and vibe. Another Example: The cook walks by us as we're finishing our meal and asks how everything is, as he walks out the front door to light up a cigarette. Lastly, the food sucked. Absolute the worst food we've eaten since being KC residents. The fries are (as others have said) tasteless and seem to come straight from the freezer bags in Sam's. The burgers had stuff on them unmentioned in the menu, were overcooked & dry, and I personally would have much rather had a burger from Mac D's. Save yourself the time, money, and most importantly the bad experience you'll surely have with this 'restaurant'. Your dignity is much better served elsewhere, I have nothing remotely good at all to say about this place, and will never step foot back in it.

It's Saturday, and the heat of 39th Street pushes The Brother and I through the corner-door of Fric & Frac. The joint is packed (as I've noticed it is most of the time), but there are two places at the bar with our names on them, and it helps that the gal behind it welcomes us there with telltale taco temptations, "3 for $1.95". It's a neighborhood place, and this being a cool neighborhood, is brimming with a wide variety of folks; you can tell some are musicians, some are families, some are almost bar-fly, but everyone's happy to be there. And, today, most folks have tacos in or around their mouths in various states of completion. The Brother (who likes his beer) states, "I'll take a Wheat." I follow suit with, "Boulevard, too, but the Pilsner, please; and I'll take the Taco plate." Tacos. It's not like they're anything truly amazing, but on a warm Saturday with a beer and The Brother it was perfect. We yapped about folks we hadn't seen in awhile (The Ladies call it "Gossiping"), and our respective lives, gorging on more tacos, having more beer, and just diggin' the fact that the casual nature of the place didn't stifle us from even bringing up some weird subjects. You know, like brothers do. When we'd finished, a new round of folks had taken up places where the earlier ones had left; the easy rhythm of a neighborhood hangout ebbing and flowing with a Saturday afternoon crowd....doing the exact same thing we were, probably. And, back out into the heat of one of KC's coolest neighborhoods...

The best of what you could call "dive bars". The drinks are fantastic, especially the specialty cocktails. The flavored alcohol is made in house. My personal favorite is the lavender fizz which is wonderful for the summer. Overall the food is pretty good. The ingredients taste fresh, and are! Salsa is fantastic, and the tacos are good too. Their wraps are good as well. You can see the kitchen so you know the food is freshly made when you order. It's become a weekly favorite and will continue to be.

I've been to Fric & Frac many times, this is my neighborhood so it's a great place to sit outside and people watch when it's warm. Despite coming here so many times, like for taco's on Saturday, I had never come for Sunday brunch and decided to take my laptop since they have Google fiber and grab some breakfast. I ordered a bloody mary, the normal bloody mary although you can also order it with habenero infused vodka if you really like heat. I also ordered the country ham and eggs with potaotes. It did not disappoint and was a wonderful and layed back breakfast. Go with friends or have a seat by yourself and relax.

Even after reading the bad reviews, I gave this place a shot in the effort to try every place on 39th there and everyone was right. Walked in about 4pm on a Friday and it was a little busy. We sit down, I ask what good on the menu and Mr. McHipster just points at different sandwiches on the menu and narrates the descriptions of them. Are they good? Ordered hummus and then ordered food 15 min later. 30 min later no hummus and no update from the dude. Went up and told him were out and to cancel the order. The only reason I would return here is to perform an upper decker in their bathroom.

Wow spent close to two hours here...arrived @ 1:30...35 minutes later, when they took our order was told we couldn't order breakfast...that ends @ 2:00. Excuse me? I was here @ 1:30. Not my fault it took 35 minutes to take my order and a good 20 minutes to get a drink. I'll pass.

I had heard that Fric & frac had "panty-dropping-sandwiches" from a valid source (he took a girl on a date here and got with her that very night! haha) So I decided to see if this theory was true. haha. I vote no. No panty-dropping sandwiches here. I had the Cajun Chicken sandwich on the lunch special. Sandwich and fries for $6. Pretty good deal, except the sandwich wasn't exactly Cajun... unless your idea of Cajun flavoring is a weird mixture of Tabasco and crushed red peppers. It was still pretty decent... I ate it (but hell, I'm pregnant, and I'll eat just about anything right now.) My boyfriend ordered the Philly Billy... or some other oddly named sandwich. his was pretty good. The place looks like it could use a MEAN freakin' scrub down though. Maybe a paint job?? it looks SERIOUSLY dingy and gross. The bathroom was relatively clean (smelled like bleach so I think it had JUST been cleaned) but the bathrooms are ungodly small. i can't imagine trying to pee in there with a huge pregnant belly. The staff was average. Nothing too spectacular. I don't know if we'll be going back or not. i think I can live without Fric & frac.

Its a neighborhood bar that welcomes all. They have lunch specials & 1/2 off apps for Happy Hour. There are different specials every night. I've been told to go in for the steak special... Absolutely I will. I have never left this place without getting a name. Ppl are so friendly. The atmosphere is chill.

It is a nice little, cozy neighborhood hangout. The food isn't amazing but it isn't bad and does the job. Every time I've been in the service has been great, except last night 29 Dec 2012. Strangely enough when the guys that work there handle my table all is great, last night two women, early 20's, absolutely bombed the service. They couldn't have been more lost. Service was beyond horrible. If it hadn't been for the fellas coming by after seeing us sit there repeatedly needing something we may never have been able to order let alone eat. Word of advice, the cute bimbos do you no good if they can't do the job.

I felt a bit like an alien here, for some reason not quite comfortable and a little off, was it because I was working and couldn't take advantage of any beer specials? Maybe it was the sparse information on the menu or that I apparently didn't understand a word the waitress said about the specials? IDK? I still rolled with it and my dining companion and I both had the open face Mexican, jalapeno, chicken and cheese...thing? Sorry, no online menu ;( The food itself was really good and yes it did take a bit to get it but GOOD LORD was it SPICY! Get their salsa, we loved it (doin' my spicy dance right now)! Don't bother with the curly fries (greasy and tasteless) but it did seem like they had some good lookin' apps. Also, not my favorite kind of tea, it wasn't "brewed" it was more the unsweet, syrup type if you like that kind of thing. I felt like Donny, out of my element. Not sure why, dives are my bread and butter. I'll go back and see if their beer tastes any good. You never know till you try.

Six hours later, I am still full from the Chicken Fried Steak special. $5 for a big fried steak, a stupid big serving of mashed taters, plus a side salad to boot. What. Service was great, despite being 5 pm, the place was pretty dead, so that may have helped. The bathrooms here are clean, and they keep your beers full. What else could you want? This place has a pretty wide range of customers, from families with children, to older bar flies. Sure the decor is right from the early nineties, with goofy squiggly neon, and aqua colored walls but who cares? They have nightly food specials here that are always a great deal. My one complaint is their insistence on playing house music. This place seems built for classic rock, but the owner's son is way too into the party scene and insists on sharing his way of life with everyone. Boooo. The owner of this place is a total bad ass. My favorite story about him is when some poor fool tried to steal the tip jar, and he chased him down and beat the crap out him. I don't know how much of that story is true, but it still makes you think twice about getting lippy. The food here is pretty good. Maybe it seems so good because to me, this place is more of a bar than a restaurant. But their special are such a great deal that they actually earned this place an extra star.

I've driven past Fric & Frac quite a few times to and fro Westport. First off, I love the area that it is located in. There are so many eclectic and quirky shops, restaurants, and bars scattered all around. It's a nice change of scenery from the commercial blah I am used to in Johnson County. And usually, I see that the place is fairly bustling with patrons. Well on a gorgeous Monday afternoon, one of my friends invited me to have lunch with her, her little baby girl, and another one of her girlfriends. I eagerly obliged because I'd been wanting to check the place out. Walking in, it is your typical diner-ish looking bar/restaurant. They've got the stools surrounding the bar and we sat at the tables right by the window. The people watching is awesome there. I was drinking vodka sodas. Bummer they only had lemons (out of limes). The food is sub-par. I ordered the gyro and it was a very basic gyro. Smaller than what I am used to and not nearly as much veggies as I would have liked to have. I wasn't all too impressed with my order. However, I nibbled on my friend's hummus she ordered and it was absolutely delicious. The pita bread was soft and warm and the hummus was extremely flavorful. I believe it was really cheap too because it was when the apps were 1/2 priced. Now that's a steal. Overall, the food wouldn't have had me hooked but I would still return. Sitting there for a few and chatting with my friends, I saw how homey the bar felt. I don't know if it was just coincidental or what, but every person who passed by would swing inside, say their hellos to my friend or someone else in the bar. It was definitely a "Cheers"-like bar. Everyone seemed to know everyone's name. I thought that was so neat! Best time to come would probably be when there's a banging beer special with the 1/2 priced apps. `

We stopped in here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The bar and restaurant were both modestly full, as a Chiefs game was on TV. We were greeted with a slightly surly server, who was a bit impatient and seemed to be annoyed that we were there bothering her. We asked for vegetarian options, and she gruffly opened the menu, pointed to a small vegetarian section, and walked off. I gazed over the menu and opted for a veggie Philly. The Philly was a bit uninspired and it came served with a pickle (fries are extra). The Philly had onion, green pepper, and cheese, all served on a hoagie bun. It was good, but not fancy and not great. I could have put it together at home in a few minutes. However, it took about 20 minutes to get our food. My girlfriend ordered regular gyro and it was also uninspired, and as she described it, "pretty basic." The gyro basically consisted of pita bread, onion, gyro meat, and Greek sauce, served with a pickle on the side. That's it. No lettuce, tomato, or other condiments. Very boring looking. Fortunately, our grumpy server was replaced with a different and happy one midway through our dining experience. That probably bumped my review from a 2 to a 3. I can see that this place has potential, and I like the location. However, I think it will be a place I'll only visit for a drink in the future. It takes too long to get a pretty basic meal, and I don't want to deal with a grumpy wait staff for more than the few seconds it takes to order and pay for a drink. The bar portion of Fric & Frac actually appeals to me, so I'll probably give it a try in the future.

Fric & Frac looks like it has so much potential from the outside. Neighborhood-y. Quirky. And even once The Boyfriend and I came inside and took a seat, I was thinking, "This could totally be where we come to hang out when we want a cold beer and bar food." Alas, the role of Favorite Neighborhood Spot has yet to be filled. We popped in for a late lunch on a random weekday. The lunch menu was pretty robust and the prices were good. And as the Barenaked Ladies say, I'm all about value. The Boy ordered a hot ham and cheese sandwich with cottage cheese (gross) and I opted for the lamb gyro and fries. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. And finally our food arrived. At this point I was nearing a comatose state and scarfed down the gyro. It was... ok. Greasy, but ok. But then I attempted to eat the curly fries, but they were so greasy that I couldn't stomach many of them. There was a huge pool of grease at the bottom of the basket of food. It was disgusting. Boy seemed reasonably content with his food. This is a common theme. The process to get our check was much like the process to get our food. Lengthy. Lots of waiting. Our initial server was quite friendly and fast. The guy who took over at the end could not have cared less about us being in the (relatively empty) restaurant. I don't think we'll be going back to Frick & Frac.

Sunday Funday Brunch! Yes, people, I said the have brunch on Sunday! They don't open till 11, so don't be a jerk and try to go in earlier while they are still getting ready to serve up awesomeness! AND don't ask if they do it on Saturday...they don't. I suggest the "mountain o breakfast". 2 eggs, browns, 4/5 slices of bacon or some great sausage and a bagel w/shmear. Its a ho-lota breakfast hence the term "mountain". Ask for a spicy bloody Mary to enjoy...or 2... and you're in heaven! Your wallet won't have a seizure either.

Venerable West 39th neighborhood diner, bar and grill. Eclectic patronage and staff. Generally overachieving bar food menu (-when in doubt, ask what's good to avoid a couple of pitfalls). Nightly specials are GREAT (especially 2-for-1 burger Mondays), and cheap Saturday tacos are a borderline 39th institution (-good luck finding a seat/table). Servers genuinely try to make/keep customers happy, just sometimes take awhile to get there.

I would like to start out this review by telling you i have been going to fric and fracs on the regular for my entire life. ENTIRE LIFE. I have lived down the street in the same house and I am now twenty three and my dad insists hes been going there since my older sister was born and she is twenty five. So besides the family history, here is my review. I love this place. Every Saturday for years we would go down here and eat their tacos. They used to be like three for a dollar. I love the small Greek salad, and the gyros. The specials are amazing and definitely worth doing, like two for one hamburgers. Awesome deals. Awesome food. So here is my negative part, my parents have now walked out of this restaurant twice. The service is horrible. They sit you, and serve you tons of alcohol while your food takes an hour to cook on a small grill. It really doesn't make any sense. I would completely understand, and so would my parents, if they were really busy when we went in. They are not. I feel like all they are trying to do is fill you up with alcohol and get you tipsy to make you spend more money. It is so not the place we used to know and love. They have lost good customers who came in at least once a week for twenty five years. So here is my question to you fric and frac worker, what happened?

Love this place! Great neighborhood joint. Love the hummus and quesadillas. If you're going to eat, plan on hanging out for a while and enjoying the fun atmosphere - the food takes a bit b/c of the small kitchen area and 1 cook but worth the wait. Pool, arcade games, and tvs for sports watching. Great drink specials - 1/2 price wells every night - and strong drinks. Enjoy :-)

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to bring down my rating by one star, for now at least. I've been here quite often since my review, and unfortunately, the service has gone down in quality for several of those visits. The wait has been slow on more than one occasion, whether the restaurant is full or not. One evening we ordered our food to go, and proceeded to wait a half hour or more before I went up and asked if our order would be out soon,; as we had to get home to relieve the babysitter. Unfortunately, I was told that, oops--we had been completely forgotten about and the order hadn't even been placed yet. That was a bit frustrating, to say the least. And another time, there was a small colony of gnats residing in the corner by our table, and it was during the winter. Ew. However, the food has remained stellar, and this is a great setting for a neighborhood bar/restaurant--so hopefully the owners will take note of all these reviews and want to fix some of the more obvious problems to better their establishment and keep us all coming back.

I'm so happy I tried this place. Ity was awesome! Friendly staff, great food, and good location. I tried the chicken parmesan sandwich and it was amazing. My boyfriend tried a gyro and that was also one of the best. It is a little pricey for what u get, but they do have great specials every day.

Fric and Frac is a great neighborhood bar and grill. The food is good bar food and the place is really casual. It's a great place to go if you have some time, because the service is really sslllooooowwww! Like dripping tar slow. Like every employee smoked some herb slow. But I guess that's part of the charm of F&F, if you have the time. Another plus is the outside seating, which gives you the opportunity to take in the views of the great 39th st. area. So, I give the food 4 stars, the service 2 stars=3 star review.

Decent drink and food specials; in my opinion, the food is a little better than what you'd except at most bars with good portions for the price (I think it's Wednesday nights that they have a $10 Steak with a salad and a side included). You may have to wait a bit for your check if you don't actively call over your waiter, but there's plenty of people-watching to do and beers to drink in that time.

Nightmarish dining experience to say the least. I'm really struggling to come up with at least one redeeming quality about this place that could possibly warrant a 2nd star, but I just can't. At first glance, F&F appears to have some kind of historic retro charm to it, but upon closer inspection, it really just comes across as drab as opposed to having any kind of nostalgic character. Appearances aside, the waiting time was absolutely horrendous. Granted, it was busy, we ordered our food and after receiving our drinks, we didn't see our waitress again until 50-60 minutes later when our food was delivered. We received no drink refills, no check-ups, no eye contact, nothing. We could also hear the chatter from all of the other tables around us expressing their frustration with their lack of service they were receiving as well. We were ready to cancel our order and walk out, but the service was so bad at this point, that it literally started to become comical and it made the experience (albeit a bad one) memorable so we decided to stick it out. The food quality/taste, as expected, is right on par with the atmosphere and service level.

2-for-1 burgers on Monday night... f--kin' A. And they're good burgers, too. They have your normal, your BBQ, your Italian... etc etc. I'd like to have some traditional fries, not one for the curlies or the straight from the potato kind. That admission will probably get me eviscerated now that I admitted it. Still, good local place, can't ever fault the quirky independent businesses. Keep it real, Fric & Frac, though you should really invest in a website with an online menu. Just sayin'.

This really is more of a bar than a restaurant in terms of its clientele, food and entertainment options. Outdoor seating is hard to come by in the summer because it is such a great 39th street location. But the interior is nice too. It doesn't really feel like a bar because it's too well lit and actually has a couple of windows. There's always a back room if you crave darkness. Anyway, they have a good bar food menu. The food is fine--nothing fancy, and I really don't understand people who think it's really excellent food. It's not, but it is fine--perfect actually after a drink or five. They do have awesome, cheap specials on a regular basis.

I love this place! Its food is great. I personally like the fried chicken finger sandwich with cheese and fixings (The Kelly). The staff is great there. They have cool little events for holidays and always great prices for alcohol and food. It's VERY casual. It has a single pool table and atari games. fric and frac reminds me of a classic neighborhood bar and grill....the kind you see on movies that take place in boston or villages in NY. i have always loved it and it is one of the very few bars/pubs/diners that has been long-standing in the kansas city area. i hear the food is good and affordable....i usually go there to drink though. went there this weekend and loved the atmosphere and the energy in the place.

Despite the often LOUSY slow service, I have to give this place 5 stars because it is strangely cool and has the best buffalo chicken sandwiches in town. They do what they do exactly right and at the right price. There are pool tables in the back room and a bar with TVs in the front room.

Great service, great prices and great specials. Fric and Frac is quickly becoming one of our "go-to" joints. I haven't had the burgers yet, but I've heard they are good. I've grown quite fond of their chicken gyros. I took away that last star because I feel like much of the food is frozen, which is a turn-off for me.

Found this neighborhood bar & grill years ago, have been going there ever since and will continue to go for years to come! My latest visit coincided with one of the craziest storms to hit KC since I moved here 16 years ago. I'm not one that normally gets nervous in storms, but this time I had my sister (from Boston) and my 2 yr old son with me...and we got stuck in the middle of this storm with tornado sirens going off all over town. The staff just kept going about their business...churning out some of the best food in town and great service...despite the craziness outside and the storm warnings being displayed on the tv. The staff kept reassuring everyone that a safe basement awaited if necessary, which was comforting. Anyway, just wanted to give kudos to the Fric-and-Frac staff for not only providing great food, drink and service, but also for just being caring people in a kind of crazy situation. Oh, and btw, try the Jalapeño burger...it's great...and if you have kids go for the chicken fingers and steamed broccoli...done fresh and just right!!

A pretty hilarious fail of epic proportion. If the "no star" option existed, I would have chosen it. Me and my family decided to try a new-to-us local restaurant on a cute little eclectic suburban road. This experience began OK. Immediately we were not greeted as we walked in by the handful of servers standing directly beyond the front door. After a very brief pause we cut the awkwardness by choosing our own table towards the back just across from the bar and cook top. We were immediately asked for our drink orders by a hipster-esk young broad who VERY clearly was new or possibly even so new I thought she may not have even been hired yet (maybe was a test run day). We got our full table of waters (yes we only ordered water) and each glass was delivered individually by a different server at a different time. After about 10 minutes of sucking on our waters we were asked if we wanted A MENU. Is that typically even a question? What is this menu item you speak of? Is it expensive? Am I worthy of your book of wonders? Do you serve only one thing a day? Did I walk past a self serve menu holder at some point along our entry? ...no We finally received our menus. Next to 30sec later our "barely loud enough to hear over the music" waitress returned asking for our orders. We weren't ready yet. When we were ready she came back and took our orders. She asked the burger orders how they wanted their burgers cooked and then I ordered my BLT. She then proceeded to ask me if I wanted cheese. The menu doesn't mention cheese, nor should it. Just nearly kissing an hour later... 3 out of 4 meals arrived! We had three baskets of appetizers- onion rings, tater tots and curly fries (with some quaint name), and three burger baskets. Each basket, again, was delivered by all different people at separate times even though they were all "order up" at the same time. There is this thing called "A TRAY". About 7 more minutes into the meal, mine had not arrived. Everyone's burgers are thoroughly over cooked (a far cry from their order of medium rare) and their flavorless patties were smaller than a mcdonalds patty... Hah?! 1/2lb?! Maybe it was a half pound with all of the toppings and buns.... Maybe. Eventually a human who worked there noticed my impatience and asked how everything was going. They realized I had not gotten my meal an quickly disappeared. Yet another 5 minutes later she returned to inform me that she had mistakenly not entered my meal to the queue in the kitchen. Commence long awkward stares. All I could say was "ok?" (Thinking, why in gods name had she not yet fixed the problem?!) and she again disappeared after a bout of long apologizing as if I was going to say I didn't for some reason want it anymore. I didn't really mean to go out to dinner, ya know?! Sometimes I like to just sit randomly at a table in a restaurant. Why would I actually want to have the food I ordered? Let alone have a menu to look at. Another Half hour passes. Everyone finished their meals as I patiently waited for what must be the largest most complicated BLT known to man kind. I ate all of about 3 fries and a few onion rings while I tried not to spoil my appetite for this such long awaited meal. It kept not coming out. The kitchen sent out 6 meals by the time my step mother yelled back to them just to have it packaged to go. 15 minutes later I actually got a styrofoam box in a plastic bag. FINALLY. While we were waiting we all enjoyed our candies which I thought couldn't possibly go wrong. The greasy fries left a bad taste in my mouth so I grabbed the green pinwheel hard candy "mint". It was lime. It took 10 more minutes for them to notice the payment card waiting patiently on the table for them which was tossed onto the receipt IMMEDIATELY upon it's arrival since, naturally- we were waiting for it. The tooth pulling was finally over and I was allowed to LEAVE that place. As I'm walking down the street I realize how massively light my bag is for having a full sandwich inside. I open my container to find the most pathetic excuse for a $7 BLT I have ever seen. There was 1 piece of heavily wilted "lettuce" 3 tomatoes on one side, the heel of a tomato on the other, absolutely no mayo to be found on the extremely greasy soaked through bread slices which actually smelled rank of dirty grill juices and an unsightly pile of "mostly" cooked limp bacon. The fact that they even bothered to stick it with a toothpick and added an 1/8th of a pickle slice sent me rolling. I got home, heated the bacon in the microwave, got myself my own damn shitty bread, tomatoes, FRESH lettuce and mayoFUKINaise to compose what amounted to a halfway decent sandwich even having to use the heels of the loaf of bread. Determined to have calories in my body after a long day, I spent $7 to wait more than 2 hours for a meal that I didn't eat 90% of. I hope your restaurant gets backed over by a loaded down Walmart truck n trailer.

Greeted by multiple staff members right when I come through the front door is always good sign of a terrific place. Atmosphere and decor is appealing. The food and service is a staple. I ordered the 1/3 lb Bacon Burger with Pepper Jack cheese and curly fries. Homemade curly fries to be exact. And if you order the curly you must get a side cup of cheese to dip them in. It's to die for. Also they have patio seating, which is great to eat and do some people watching if you are in the mood. If you are ever on 39th Street this destination is a must to get some terrific burgers or gyros.

Tried Fric & Frac for the first time today, and can honestly say I'm a fan! Very friendly service, and patient with this first timer. I sat at the bar, and had a nice time talking to Pat (I think that was his name) I was having trouble deciding between the burger and the gyro, but since it was my first visit, Pat recommended the burger, and he was spot-on! Very flavorful and fresh, and served pretty quickly. The only knock I'd give them was on their "Italian" fries...deep fried wedges of baked potato, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. They were just kinda bland. I'd definitely go back to try the other sandwiches, but I'll try the regular fries next time! Great neighborhood bar and grill!

This update isn't about the food, but of the overall wonderfulness of this place. There aren't many restaurant owners in town, I don't think, who throw open their doors for a Christmas/Customer Appreciation party with a table full of delicious free food. No, it wasn't advertised except by word of mouth and a few flyers in the restaurant, but word got around to the regulars. According to one of the cooks, Rudy the owner did nearly all of it himself, and it was all wonderful-brisket, turkey, and sides, including an incredible rice salad that seriously deserves a spot on the menu. The row of beer taps has grown impressive, including more locals than just Boulevard and Founder's Breakfast Stout. All the staff was in a festive mood, it truly felt like a gathering of friends. Tonight, Fric & Frac set my standard for neighborhood bars.

First time to Fric and Frac and it was pretty cool. I went on a Monday which means buy one get one burgers. The burger was amazing! I felt like I was eating a really delicious homemade burger. I ordered onion rings with it and that was the only part I was a little disappointed on. While the onion rings were delicious they were 4-5 dollars which was a bit much for a side of a few onion rings. I would probably order them again but I will think twice next time before adding that to my bill. They didn't have a ton of craft beers on tap but they did have Boulevards Bob's 47' which is a seasonal and it's delicious. It's overall a great place and I really love their good and their outdoor seating. I will update the more I go here but overall I loved it!

Fric n Frac is an easy choice any night of the week for food and drinks. Saturday tacos, 2-for-1 gyro/falafel night on Wednesday, great happy hour/drink specials, and those curly fries! I've been coming to the little diner on the corner of 39th & Gennessee since the mid 90s. Thanks to the preferences of Max and friends, including Kansas Ctiy legend Pat Nice, there's always amazing music pumping down from above. Long-time institution Jeff is a standout server, and while the service does give it the entire dive experience - occasionally, you get lost in the shuffle, sometimes you get to taste-test a whole new off-menu selection being concocted on the line station behind the bar - you'll never be too far away from someone willing to help. One thing for sure, bad servers don't tend to stick around too long in this place. Fric n Frac isn't a place to run in and get fast food and then blast out, it's a place to take a breath, look out the tall windows, and sip on a Boulevard while the other fools are wasting the afternoon filing TPS reports or staring at the tailpipe ahead of them in the drive-through. The outside seating has been a great vantage point to watch 39th street come to life over the years, and the immediate impression of a bustling dive hits you as soon as you walk in. Regulars belly up to the bar, while the little seat-yourself tables in the front room are close enough that you might get a chance to become better acquainted with your neighbor. The large open back room is a great place to play some pool or drop a few quarters into the pinball and arcade games. TVs are tuned to local sports action or ESPN, and when the fan favorites score, the place erupts. Fric n Frac might get a little static from the sides being a la carte, but those aren't frozen Sysco fries you're getting. Have you seen the hummus sandwich? Take a whole round piece of pita, put it on a salad plate, and pile a gigantic helping of tomatoes, feta, lettuce, onions and hummus on there, and forget about folding - it is literally two meals, if not three. The Saturday tacos come in a veg-friendly version, and their veggie burger is always a great option as well in a town that tends to look at the herbivore as a dismissed afterthought. The slab of cream cheese in the veg gyro is a savory treat, even on nights it's not on the 2-for-1 special. There's a reason this place was an easy choice for my girlfriend and me to extend our first date as we closed down our first stop and wanted an intimate local place iwth character to continue our conversation. Keep the house music bumping and those great craft cocktails flowing - Fric n Frac is the heart of 39th street!

Fric and Frac is AMAZING! This has been one of my favorite places for fifteen years plus.... Best part is that it never changes. Everything is great on menu and they have awesome specials daily. It's fun eclectic atmosphere where everyone is welcome. I like to for late night food, quick drinks with friends, Sunday hangover brunch and anytime for a family dinner. The pool tables and pinball machines provide good distraction. Love they offer free google fiber. FYI- my favorite item is curly q fries with cheese and any burger.

Best Gyros in town! Great consistancy, love the creamy yogurt sauce and warm soft pita bread... Yes they have half off all Appetizers from 3-6pm but the downside of this establishment is that u have to wait until 6:30 to get their dinner specials, I'm sorry but I eat dinner WAY before 6:30, maybe on day if they change that rule we'll be able to try one.

Nice staff. Clean. Fun atmosphere. THEY HAVE GUINNESS!!! ('nough said) ... Okay, Yelp! doesn't seem to think my review was long enough - as if, there's more needed, than calling out Guinness. So, I'll add the WiFi is good, and they have free computer access. The pool table is level and well maintained. The floors are nice. The food is good - I love their fries (okay, I love everyone's fries and if I don't, I would return). They have several TVs - generally sports are on. They have several specials. However, the most special item of all is - now shout it with me - "THEY HAVE GUINNESS!!!"

I love this place. I try something different every time I come down and have yet to not like it. Location is great, staff are very nice. They always are smiling and willing to help with any questions. If you love jalapeno poppers they have the best!! Also they have smoke meat Thursday lunch specials!!

Service was incredibly slow and the food was terrible. My husband and I both ordered off of the back of the menu were there were lunch combos listed for 5.99. Our waiter failed to tell us that those prices were only week day prices and that was not stated on the menu. We waited for over an hour to get our food. Way too long for simple bar food and the place really wasn't packed. I ordered the homemade veggie burger. Worst veggie burger I've ever had. It had no taste to it and completely fell apart. Veggie burgers can be tricky though so I tried to keep that in mind. Tasted my husbands food; he got their chicken gyro and Susie q fries. Chicken was dry and fries were cold and limp. I had heard great things about this place and was left disappointed. Maybe an off day? :/

I didn't expect it, but this place had a good gyro! The Susie Q curly fries were mediocre at best--quite greasy and flimsy. Our food took some time to find its way to us but for a late night bite, this place did alright. Service was a little more on the stagnant side (i.e. the usual suspects like no water refill, slow to receive ticket, asking for silverware). There's a fun feel as the décor is a bit whimsy and I liked that. I compare this place to more of a "booty call." It was late night and random with no expectations, there's was one thing I liked, sure--it sounded great at the time, but it was just banal all over. Maybe we'll run in to each other again, but definitely not on the radar at the moment.

Fun and comfortable place to stop in for a variety of good Americana foods. I had the Mama Mia sandwich with Italian fries. Mandolias Italian sausage, YUMMY! Definitely would stop here again.

First off... great name, huh?! Secondly, I came here with my family, including my grandfather, who has Alzheimer's. He likes to get up and walk about, and there's no talking him out of it. The bartenders and waitress were so patient with him. We were made to feel very welcome after a cruddy day, and for that, I'm appreciative. The food is typical for a bar... greasy and delicious! Looking around me while I was there, it also seemed to be "the place" to grab an after-work beer and laugh with friends. So overall- atmosphere- great! Service- great! Food- artery clogging and delicious! Beer- well, I'm unsure, I don't drink, but people were downing 'em, so how bad can they be?! I'm only taking away a star for the sticky table...

Fric & Frac is an old stomping ground with me and my old roomie. We used to play pool here and grab cheap pitchers of beer. The tacos aren't half bad either. If you're looking for quick service or something more than people squished together at random tables and a checkered table cloth, you shouldn't come here. I dig it tho.

I had not been there in over 20 years and went in late January/early Feb. The sodas were undrinkable because the water was vile. The Italian sausage sandwich was tough and hard to eat. Service was meh. Won't ever go back. Seedy, dirty.

OMG! So I always love this place and their food is always five star.... But tonight I finally got the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes...and it is hands down the best chicken fried steak I've ever eaten...and I'm picky! This food was so fantastic I couldn't stop eating!!! Wow is all I can say! Sunday night is chicken fried steak after a Saturday of the yummy tacos!

Fric & Frac offers standard greasy pub fare with some good specials. It is largely a hangout spot for the neighborhood. They have a good happy hour (half off appetizers and cheap drinks). It might not be anything to write home about, but the price and location are right.

I love fric & frac. Especially their Saturday taco special. American style tacos, crispy corn shells, beef, lettuce, cheese. Dirt cheap and very yummy. If you ask they bring pickled jalapenos and sour cream along with the mild tomato salsa. They have a couple of pool tables, excellent. And you can get a boulevard wheat on tap to wash the tacos down. Or, if you need it, a cocktail. Some saturdays I do need it. I have lunch here during the week from time to time, it's close to the office, and I really like their fish sandwich, a big filet of some kind of white mild fish, all crispily breaded and fried. It comes out hot with lettuce and tomato and onion. I've had the burgers and they are also good. It's a good little diner/ bar, a very neighborhoody sort of place, reminds me of the corner bars in my old hometown of Lafayette IN, which all opened at 3 AM for the nightshift. I believe they have a steak night, although I've never tried it, as I am down in OvPk at night.

Best taco Saturday!!!! I can't believe I have not reviewed Fric n Frac yet! I could go on and on and on about how wonderful this establishment is, but I will let you all experience that for yourself! The staff is the absolute BEST and the food is stellar with that homey-diner feel to it. I regulate here all the time because it never gets old! They change up the menu and have a great happy hour and they also do some cocktail specials that are seasonal. Taco Saturday is by far my favorite day in midtown! They have homemade salsa and you get 3 for 2.75! Can't beat it! One of the best things for me too is that you can sit on the patio for hours with your furry friends and the staff brings water and BACON out for them! It is such a good time! GO and enjoy! Cheers!

This is a staple to Kansas City, this place is always attentive and friendly. I LOVE my Saturday tacos! YUM-A must try! John the cook is right on target every time, always smiling and always has time to say hello. He is truly an asset to this business! I love playing the pin ball games in the back and just having a good time with always friendly staff and customers!

This place has a typical bar atmosphere, less than average food, and a lot to be left desired service and attitude. I rarely write 1 star reviews, but they 'earned' it. Let me explain. Atmosphere: Bar, tables and chairs, basic decor and a TV or two; wi-fi available. Loud, but to be expected. It wasn't that busy for a weekend night. Food: Even given that our steaks and seafood were on special, the fried shrimp was below average; I would expect something similar from Long John Silver's, but this was at Red Lobster prices. The fries were cold, greasy and undercooked. I would have asked for them to be re-made, but our server was no where to be found for ages. The steak seemed frozen, cooked in a greasy skillet and had little flavor. My husband never asks for steak sauce, but this one needed it...he didn't get it, since no one came to check on us. Chain restaurants have better steaks, and I think McDonald's might have been able to do better....I suppose artificial flavoring is better than none at all, but in a town built on beef, this was disappointing. The 'loaded' baked potato wasn't that loaded; it had a small amount of real bacon, some cheddar cheese (very little), butter and sour cream. And guess what? Although the server offered it as an option, we weren't told of the steep upcharge for it. Then we ordered their happy hour drink special: 2 for 1 well drinks....well, not REALLY 2 for 1. You buy a double but pay for a single. Sure, I didn't ASK for the price of the drink, but $4.00 for a SINGLE WELL DRINK? I drink in JoCo and they don't even charge prices like that. Cold texas toast incurs an additional charge as well. Oh, the salads weren't too bad. Service: Slow. Snail pace slow. Our water glasses were refilled ONCE and only because we asked him as he went by from refilling another table's glasses for their first time in 30 minutes. Our meals arrived but no one checked on us for over 15 minutes, lest I would have mentioned the fries; we were also crowded in a corner where it would have been a pain in the neck to get up to service our own needs...which is not why we go out to eat. We never got our check, and finally I took the cash up, with what I thought was an additional amount that they probably didn't deserve, but I was feeling generous, and hey, everyone 'misses' sometimes. We started to leave, and were chased down by the waitress; we still owed money OVER what we had figured with the tip...a LOT. She didn't bring our ticket until we asked to see it, and she wasn't nice about it. She showed us all these extra charges, and was rude. She was so unpleasant we said here's the amount, keep what little change is due is as the tip. THEN she started in on US about how that isn't fair, because they TIP POOL, including the cook, and that isn't fair to him. I told her (nicely, actually) to take that up with the server who didn't SERVE us. Also, if you are tip sharing/job sharing tables, then you also help your partners out on their tables. This did NOT happen at all. I've worked and managed in many (nicer!!!) restaurants, and if you tip the kitchen, it's generally on your sales, not on your tips; even so, that is the server's problem that he did a poor job (plus, I wouldn't have added anything extra for the fairly inadequate food anyway). Two stars for the food and atmosphere, and 1 star for the service. I had visited once before at lunch and the tall guy did a pretty good job. Too bad that this horrible visit has soured us on returning, with so many other good places nearby or in the area.

After experiencing an extremely long wait for everything a few months ago I wasn't in a hurry to come back here. However, the other day I decided to see how I'd fare coming in for a late lunch, since beer and burgers sounded really good and they are so darn close to home! I'm happy to report that this visit merited a rating increase. The server was both friendly and attentive and my wife and I didn't have to wait long for anything. I've never had any issues with the food quality -- just the amount of time it can take to arrive -- but this time everything was speedy. I would highly recommend this place during the slower hours like this time -- just not during the peak hours, unless you are planning on staying for the long haul.

I have been going to fric & frac for taco Saturday for 18 years (give or take a year). The only thing about them that has changed over the years is the price. They are hands down my favorite tacos in town. I have NEVER eaten anything else there (except chips, do those really count?) and probably never will.

I live on 39th so I love sitting on their sidewalk area and chatting with all my friends that walk by. The food is typical bar food nothing to write home to mom about. After 9pm they have 2-for-1 wells definitely worthy of a letter to mom but my mom wouldn't appreciate knowing that I'm having 2-for-1 wells on a Thursday night. :) Great little spot for people watching, the service is always on point, and the food isn't bad!!
